Manchester’s idiosyncratic art-popologists Dutch Uncles return with Big Balloontheir new studio album, on February 17 on Memphis Industries.

This week the band shares album standout “Oh Yeah,” featuring backing vocals from Stealing Sheep and Everything Everything. Stream the track over at The FADER and on SoundCloud. Lead vocalist Duncan Wallis explains the positive sentiment behind Oh Yeah: “as soon as you are back to emotional zero, BAM! Opportunity knocks. Perhaps not in the way you thought it would, but a connection all the same, and the realization genuinely carefree times are right there in your palm”.

“Constantly moving guitar and bass lines run throughout,” expands Robin Richards. “As well as aiming to write the fastest Dutch Uncles song to date, I wanted to experiment with subtle key changes guided by erratic synth stabs, contrasted with legato string lines.”

Taking musical inspiration from Kate Bush‘s The Red ShoesLow-era David Bowie, some slightly-less fashionable records belonging to their Dads and East European techno, Big Balloon is the fifth Dutch Uncles studio album and the follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed O Shudder.

Big Balloon is the latest chapter in Dutch Uncles’ brilliantly witty, hip-swiveling, left-field adventures and was recorded in Manchester’s Old Granada TV Studios where Sex Pistols and Joy Division made their televisual debuts.

Big Balloon then is Dutch Uncles’ finest album to date, taking listeners on an exhilarating cerebral journey that marks them out a one of the UK’s most consistently forward thinking bands.
