During a short break after a 40-date European tour capped by an appearance at SXSW where the band played an unofficial record breaking 20 shows, DD/MM/YYYY took to the studio to record. The results will see their way onto a new LP in late 2011, as well as a split LP with fellow Canadians, Women. In celebration, the two bands will be sharing the stage for a two-week tour hitting the east coast of US and Canada.

Seemingly always on tour, a result of their most recent European stint was a chance encounter with Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Beak, the latter performing with DD/MM/YYYY in France. Geoff liked the guys so much, he signed them to his label, Invada Records, and will be re-releasing DD/MM/YYYY’s latest album, Black Square, with additional songs in Europe on October 11, 2010. One of the songs, “777” can be heard on a session the band recorded at the Daytrotter Studios when the they were on tour late last year with These Arms Are Snakes. The band will tour Europe this October through December in support of the album, including another run of dates with Women.

DD/MM/YYYY have also reissued their first full-length album, The Blue Screen of Death as a limited edition LP + 7″ package on Itchy Roof Records, run by Moshe Rozenberg of DD/MM/YYYY, which will be available on their fall tours of the US and Europe.

What the press has said about DD/MM/YYYY:

“Toronto noise experimentalists DD/MM/YYYY might be the only band in the angular- haircut circuit these days to blend their art rock with math. But they’re in good company, ’cause Devo did, too. With spastic overlayed vocals and droning prog guitarwork, tracks such as “Digital Haircut” and “Infinity Skull” from their recent 12-inch release Black Square sound like Stephen Malkmus and Stephen Hawking playing Freaky Friday.”
– Village Voice

“Black Square is the third release from DD/MM/YYYY, and it is definitely their most accomplished effort to date.
There is a certain vibe to it that draws comparison in some ways to Les Savy Fav with a slightly rougher, almost slacker-like approach.” – Citizen Dick

“An interesting mix of angular post-rock a la Gang Of Four and the more bizarro rock of bands like Liars.” – Chart
